Painting the P-38J Lightning
Previously painted in a two-tone camou-
flage, rrom December 1943 U.S. Army
aircraft were su pplied com pletely unpainted
- as they had been pre-war - a decision
mad€ based upon improving U.S, fortunes
in the conflict. Many aircraft were painted a
matte color such as olive drab on the upper
surface ol their nose and inside the engine
cowls to reduce glare, and some had their
nose adorned with nicknames and art.
Painting instructions for details are indicat-
ed during assembly.
Bemalung der P-38J Lightning
Vorher in einem zweifarbigen Tarnschema
lackiert, waren die Flugzeuge derAmerika-
nischen Army Air Force ab Dezember 1943
komplett unlackiert, wae sie auch vor dem
Krieg waren. Dann gab es eine Entschei-
dung die Chancen der IJS Flugzeuge zu
verbossern. Viele Flugzeuge wurden in
einer matten Farbe wie Dunkeloliv lackiert
auI der Oberseite der Nase und an den
lnnenseiten der Motorgondeln um eine
Blendung des Piloten zu vermeiden. Einige
trugen Spitznamen an der Nase und Bilder.

deux tons, les avions de I'USAAF furent
livr6s ä partir de d6cembre 1943 entiöre-
ment m6tai nu - comme avant la guerre -
une decision bas6e sur la tournure
favorable des 6v6nements pour les USA.
Beaucoup d'avions avaient des panneaux
matOlive Drab ou noir sur le dessus du nez
et la face interne des nacelles moteur pour
r6duire l'6blouissement du pilote, et
certains portaient sur le nez des surnoms
et nose arts. Les instructions de peinture
des d6tails sont fournies durant I'assem-
blage.

(!)Cut off decal from sheet.
ODip the decal in tepid water for about 10
sec. and placeon a clean cloth.
G)Hold the backing sheet edge and slide
decal onto tho model.
@Move decalinto position by wetting decal
with finger
OPress decaldown gently with asoftcloth
unfilexcess water and a;r bubbles are gone.
ANBRINGUNG DES ABZIEHBILDES
OAbziehbild vom Blatt ausschneiden.
(rDas Abziehbild ungefähr 10 Sek. in
lauwarmes Wasser tauchen, dann auf
sauberen Stoff legen.
€)Die Kante der Unterlage halten und das
Abziehbild auf das Modell schieben.
O)Das Abziehbild an die richtige Stelle
schieben und dabei mit dem Finger das
Abziehbild naßmachen.
G)Das Abziehbild leicht mit einem weichen
Tuch andrücken, bis überschüssiges
Wasser und Luftblasen entfernt sind,
APPLICATION DES DECALCOMANIES
OD6coupez la d6calcomanie de sa feuille.
(2)Plongez la d6calcomanie dans de l'eau
tiäde pendant 10 secondes environ et
poser sur un linge propre.
(rRetenez la feuille de protection par le
c6t6 et glissez la d€calcomanie sur le
modöle r6duit.
@Placez la d6calcomanie ä l'endroit voulu
en la mouillantavec un devos doigts.
G)Pressez doucement la d6calcomanie
avec un tissu douxjusqu'ä ce que l'eau en
excös et les bulles aient disparu.
