6.1Generalsafetyinformation

liftingstrapstobecomeentangledaroundthe
patientandcaregivers.

–Neverputhandsorngersonornearthe
hookswhenlifting.

Alltransferproceduresdescribedinthefollowing
canbeperformedbyone(1)assistant.However,
Invacarerecommendsthattheproceduresare
performedbytwo(2)assistantswhenever
possible.
6.2AttachingtheSling
WARNING!
RiskofInjury
Usageofwrongordamagedslingscancausethe
patienttofallorcauseinjurytoassistants.
–UseanInvacareapprovedslingthatis
recommendedbytheindividual’sdoctor,nurse
ormedicalassistantforthecomfortandsafety
oftheindividualbeinglifted.
–Invacareslingsandpatientliftaccessoriesare
specicallydesignedtobeusedinconjunction
withInvacarepatientlifts.
–Aftereachlaundering(inaccordancewith
instructionsonthesling),inspectsling(s)for
wear,tear,andloosestitching.
–Bleached,torn,cut,frayed,ordamagedslings
areunsafeandcouldresultininjury.Discard
immediately.
–DONOTalterslings.

Improperlyattachedoradjustedslingscancause
thepatienttofallorcauseinjurytoassistants.
–Besuretochecktheslingattachmentseach
timetheslingisremovedandreplaced,to
ensurethatitisproperlyattachedbeforethe
patientisremovedfromastationaryobject
(bed,chairorcommode).
–DONOTuseanykindofplasticback
incontinencepadorseatingcushionbetween
patientandslingmaterialthatmaycausethe
patienttoslideoutoftheslingduringtransfer.
–Positionthepatientintheslingasdirectedby
theinstructionsprovidedwiththesling.
–Adjustmentsforpatientsafetyandcomfort
shouldbemadebeforemovingthepatient.
Theinformationinthissectionisonlyageneralguideline.
Refertotheslingusermanualformoredetailsaboutthe
slings.
Aslingwithfourtosixstrapsdesignedformountingon
hooksshouldbeusedwhenusingtheceilinghoist.
Theloopsoftheslingmaybeequippedwithcolorcoded
strapsprovidingdifferentlength,toplacethepatientin
variouspositions.Matchthecorrespondingcolorsoneach
sideoftheslingforanevenliftofthepatient.
Theslingstrapsaretobehookedinpairs(onefromtheback
andonefromtheleg)ontheirownsuspensionhook.
Whenattachingtheslingtothehooks,andthestraps
aretwisted,thestrapswillrotateandstretchout,
thusensuringtrouble-freeoperation.
