3.6.1 Side Transfer Flexi Board Oval L
➢ Place the patient on their side
➢ Use a pull sheet to facilitate the transfer or to extend the reach.
➢ Place the Flexi Board under the patient's friction points (hip and shoulder) between the sheet and
the pull sheet.
➢ For smooth placement, push the Flexi Board onto the mattress.
➢ The weight of the friction points should be centred on the Flexi Board.
➢ Place patient on their back
➢ Work sideways next to the bed
➢ Slide the patient over the Flexi Board
➢ If a pull sheet is used, the patient can be pulled in the direction of transfer on the Flexi Board.
➢ Stabilise the patient with one hand, pull out the Flexi Boards.
3.6.2 Transfer to the top Flexi Board Oval L
➢ Push the Flexi Boards under the patient's friction points (hip and shoulder).
➢ The handle openings point to the side
➢ A cotton sheet should be used as an intermediate layer to protect the patient's skin.
➢ One user is needed on each side of the bed
➢ Grasp the handles from both sides
➢ Move Flexi Boards in the direction of transfer
➢ To remove, stabilise the patient with one hand and pull out the Flexi Boards.
3.6.3 Applying a Sling in a seated position Flexi Board Oval L
➢ Insert two Flexi Boards between the patient's back and the backrest to create a double layer.
➢ Insert sling between the two Flexi Boards
➢ Make sure that the centre of the sling is against the patient's spine.
➢ Pull the sling down
➢ Place the sling behind the patient in the correct position.
➢ Remove the Flexi Boards by pulling on the handles.
➢ Put on the leg sections (see also the section on Putting on the Leg Sections of a Flexi Board S Sling).
➢ For further instructions, the sling's instruction guide must be followed!
3.6.4 Applying a sling in a lying position Flexi Board Oval L
➢ Place the Flexi Board sideways to the lower back.
➢ Push the Flexi Board under the patient with pressure on the mattress up to the spine.
➢ Rotate the Flexi Board upwards under the patient.
➢ The correct position of the Flexi Board covers the shoulder area up to the patient's tailbone.
➢ Repeat the steps with a second Flexi Board on the opposite side.
➢ The two Flexi Boards meet in the middle
➢ Apply sling at head end
➢ Pull the sling down between the Flexi Board and the fitted sheet towards the coccyx.
➢ Centre positioning is facilitated by a caregiver on each side of the bed.
➢ Pull the Flexi Board out from under the patient by rotating it.
➢ Put on leg sections
➢ For further instructions, the sling's user manual must be followed!
3.6.5 Positioning in the wheelchair Flexi Board Oval S
➢ To facilitate positioning, a footstool can be placed under the patient's feet.
➢ Stabilise the upper body and tilt it slightly to the side.
➢ Slide the Flexi Board under the patient's thighs and buttocks.
➢ The patient can move to the desired position under his own power.
➢ For safety, a caregiver should assist with positioning and, if necessary, support the correct direction of the
backward movement by applying light pressure under the knees.
➢ Stabilise the patient and remove the Flexi Boards by pulling on the handles.
