Rules for curling
Object:
Be the team with the higher score at the end of 8 rounds.
Rules
Players divide up into two teams and choose one player to be the skipper (team captain). The
skipper is going to play a key role during each team´s turn. Flip a coin to determine what team goes
rst.
During the rst round of play, the skipper for each team will be only one sliding the mini pucks to the
house (target at the opposing end). The skipper from team 1 will slide one puck, the the skipper from
team two will slide one puck. The skippers will go back and forth until all 4 of their pucks have been
used. Once the round is over the scoring team records their points.
Now the next round begins. It´s time for another player to slide the pucks down the board towards
the house. Before each players slides their pucks, the skipper will advise where they should aim.
Once the puck is released and is sliding to the desired target, the skipper has their most important
job yet. They need to yell at the puck to make sure it stays on track until stops moving. This play
continues until 8 rounds have been nished.
Scoring
The object is to be the team closest to the center of the house. The team with the closer mini puck
will score one point for every puck that is closer than the opposing team. If both teams feel their mini
puck is closer, there is no point awarded.
This example shows that TEAM 2 scored 1 point because only one puck was closest to the center of
the house than TEAM 1´s closest puck to the center.
Technique:
Aside from the skipper yelling at the mini pucks, there are a few techniques that we suggest trying.
Blocking - Teams can protect previously slid pucks by sliding another puck in front of it.
This will help to create a protective barrier during the other teams turn.
Defending - Teams can use their mini puck to knock the opposing team out of a scoring opportunity.
Flip the puck - try out both sides of the puck. You will nd that one side slides slightly dierent than
the other!
