Radio-controlled weather station

Introduction

Familiarise yourself with the product before using it for the ﬁrst time. In addition

please refer carefully to the operating instructions below and the safety advice.

Use the product only as described and for the indicated purpose. Keep these

instructions in a safe place. If you pass the product on to anyone else, please ensure that

you also pass on all the documentation.

Proper Use

The radio controlled weather station displays the indoor and outdoor temperature in

Celsius (°C) or Fahrenheit (°F) and the indoor humidity in % RH (% relative humidity), as

well as their maximum and minimum values. Further readings of the weather station are the

weather forecast, the time in the 12 / 24-hour format and the date. Additionally, the radio

controlled weather station has a calendar, an alarm with snooze function and a setting for

the world time zone. Any other use or modiﬁcation of the instrument constitutes improper use

and may result in injury and / or damage to the instrument. The manufacturer is not liable

for damage caused by improper use. The device is not intended for commercial use.

General Safety Information

WARNING!

TODDLERS AND SMALL CHILDREN! Never allow children to play

unsupervised with the packaging material. There is a danger of suﬀocation

should be kept away from the product at all times. This is not a toy.

m DANGER TO LIFE! Batteries can be swallowed, which may represent a danger to life.

If a battery has been swallowed, medical help is required immediately.

J Children or persons who lack the knowledge or experience to use the device or whose

physical, sensory or intellectual capacities are limited must never be allowed to use the

device without supervision or instruction by a person responsible for their safety. Children

must never be allowed to play with the device.

J Do not use the device in hospitals or medical facilities, as otherwise this may result in

malfunctions of life-support systems.

J Do not expose the device to an extremely high electromagnetic ﬁeld. This may impair

the correct functioning of the device.

J Please note that the guarantee does not cover damage caused by incorrect handling,

non-compliance with the operating instructions or interference with the device by

unauthorised individuals.

Safety Instructions for Batteries

J Remove the batteries from the device if they are not going to be used for a prolonged

period.

CAUTION! DANGER OF EXPLOSION! The batteries must never be

recharged!

J When inserting the batteries, ensure the correct polarity! This is shown in the battery

compartments.

J If necessary, clean the batteries and device contacts before inserting the batteries.

Safety / Before Initial Use

J Remove spent batteries immediately from the device. There is an increased danger of leaks!

J Batteries must not be disposed of in the normal domestic waste!

J Every consumer is legally obliged to dispose of batteries in the proper manner!

J Keep batteries away from children; do not throw them in the ﬁre, short-circuit them or

take them apart.

J Always replace all the batteries at once.

J Use batteries of the same type only.

J If the batteries have leaked inside your device, you should remove them immediately in

order to prevent damage to the device!

J Avoid contact with the skin, eyes and mucous membranes. Any parts of the body

coming into contact with battery acid should be rinsed oﬀ with copious amounts of

water and / or a doctor contacted if necessary!

Before Initial Use

General information

m CAUTION! When choosing where to position the weather station, make sure that it

is not exposed to direct sunlight, vibrations, dust, heat, cold or moisture. Do not place

the weather station or external sensor near to heat sources, e.g. radiators, as this may

result in damage to the instruments.

j Do not place the devices near sources of interference such as television sets, computers,

thick walls, thermopane windows etc. Otherwise the transmission of radio waves between

the devices may be impaired.

j Please ensure that neighbouring devices are not operated at the same frequency of

433 MHz. Such devices may cause interference to the radio connection.

j Do not place the devices next to or on metal plates. Otherwise the quality of radio

wave transmission may be reduced.

Radio signal (DCF):

The DCF signal (time signal transmitter) is made up of time pulses transmitted from one of

the highest precision clocks in the world close to Frankfurt / Main in Germany - it varies by

1 second in 1 million years. In ideal conditions, your weather station can pick up this signal

over a distance of up to approx. 1,500 km around Frankfurt / Main.

Setting up the external sensor

Inserting / changing the battery:

j Remove the battery compartment cover on the back of the outdoor sensor (see Figure D).

j Insert two 1.5 V

batteries (AA) (supplied) in the battery compartment

Note: Ensure the correct polarity. This is shown in the battery compartment

j Set the switch

to 1, 2 or 3 in order to select the desired outdoor sensor channel.

The outdoor sensor is now ready to operate and the control LED

lights up brieﬂy.

j Close the cover of the battery compartment.

Note: Select a covered location for the outdoor sensor and do not position it in the

immediate vicinity of the weather station (e.g. separated by a wall). Make sure the

outdoor sensor does not come into contact with water or direct sunlight. Electronic

devices can interfere with the radio reception.

Mounting the outdoor sensor on the wall:

Note: You will need an electric drill for this step of the installation.

m CAUTION! DANGER TO LIFE, RISK OF INJURY AND MATERIAL DAMAGE!

Read the operating and safety instructions for your drill carefully.

WARNING!

DANGER TO LIFE! Take care that you do not hit electricity, gas or

water lines when you drill into the wall. If necessary, check with a pipe and cable detector

before drilling.

Putting the weather station into operation

Inserting the battery:

j Open the battery compartment

on the back of the weather station.

j Insert two 1.5 V

batteries (AA) (supplied) in the battery compartment

Note: Ensure the correct polarity. This is shown in the battery compartment

j Close the cover of the battery compartment.

j Remove the protective ﬁlm from the LC display of the weather station.

Once the batteries are inserted, the weather station starts to receive the outdoor sensor signal.

This process does not take more than 3 minutes. During this time the reception symbol of

the outdoor sensor

ﬂashes. After successful reception of the outdoor sensor signal the

weather station starts to receive the DCF radio signal. This process may take up to 5 minutes

and is shown in the LC display by the ﬂashing

symbol

Reception may be seriously restricted by certain obstacles (e.g. concrete walls) or sources

of interference (e.g. other electrical devices). If interference with reception of the radio signal

continues, you can also set the time and date manually (see “Setting the time / date manually”).

Putting the weather station into operation / Operation

Reception of the DCF radio signal can be stopped and restarted by pressing and holding

down the – / °C / °F / WAVE button

. If reception fails, change the location of the weather

station and try again to receive the radio signal.

Operation

Reception of the DCF radio signal may be disrupted or interrupted at the location of the

weather station. In this case you are able to set the instrument manually.

Setting the time / date manually

1. Press and hold down the – / °C / °F / WAVE button

approx. 2 seconds in order to

stop reception of the DCF radio signal (see Figure B).

2. Press and hold down the SET button

in order to change to the settings mode. The

time

ﬂashes. In order to select the 24 or 12-hour format, press the + / MEM button

or the - / ° C / ° F / WAVE button

3. Press the SET button

to conﬁrm what you have entered.

4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 in order to set the values for the year, date (day and month)

current day

(in EN or DE), hours, minutes and time zone. If you do not press any

button approx. 15 - 20 seconds, the weather station will automatically exit the settings

mode.

Note: If you are in a country in which the DCF signal is still being received, but where

the current time diﬀers, you can use the time zone setting function to adjust the clock to

the current time.

Operation

Displaying DST summertime

Summertime is automatically displayed on the LCD by the icon

. The DCF radio signal

indicates to the clock whether or not it is summertime.

Setting the alarm

j Stop the reception of the DCF radio signal.

j Press and hold down the ALARM button

. The hour display ﬂashes.

j In order to enter the hours ﬁgure, press the + / MEM button

or the – / °C / °F / WAVE

button

. Conﬁrm your input by pressing the ALARM button

. Repeat this step to

enter the minutes.

Turning the alarm on / oﬀ

j Stop the reception of the DCF radio signal.

j Press the ALARM button

in order to activate or switch oﬀ the alarm.

If the alarm is activated, the alarm symbol appears in the LC display.

Using the snooze function

j While the alarm is sounding, press the SNOOZE button

in order to activate the

snooze function. The alarm stops and then goes oﬀ again after a period of 5 minutes.

j Now press any button, with the exception of the SNOOZE button

, in order to turn

the alarm oﬀ.

Displaying the Temperature

The LC display shows both the current indoor

and outdoor temperature

j Stop the reception of the DCF radio signal.

j Press the – / °C / °F / WAVE button

in order to select the Celsius or Fahrenheit

temperature unit for the display of the weather station.

j Press the CH button

in order to select one of the three channels for the outdoor

sensor. The channel number appears in the channel display for the outdoor sensor

j Press and hold down the CH button

for 3 seconds in order to restart reception.

Displaying the Humidity

The current humidity

is shown on the LC display.

j Stop the reception of the DCF radio signal.

Operation

Setting up the weather forecast function

Note: please also listen to the weather forecast from your local weather service. If there

are discrepancies between the instrument and your local weather service, please go by

the local weather service forecast.

The weather station analyses the air pressure, humidity and outdoor temperature in order to

determine the weather forecast for the current day. It also analyses the weather of the current

day, the humidity and temperature to determine the weather for the next four days. The

following weather symbols are available for this:

sunny

partly sunny

cloudy

rain

After you have inserted the batteries, the weather station needs 12 hours to collect the data

that is necessary to determine the weather. Subsequently the accuracy of the weather forecast

improves.

The accuracy of the weather forecast can also be improved by placing the weather station

in a location that receives plenty of natural ventilation. Indoor use increases the likelihood

of errors – especially when air conditioners are used.

Calling up the minimum / maximum temperature values

j Stop the reception of the DCF radio signal.

j Press the + / MEM button

in order to display the minimum / maximum values for the

indoor and outdoor temperature. The abbreviations MIN and MAX appear above the

displayed values.

j Press and hold down the + / MEM button

for 3 seconds in order to reset the stored

values. A beep conﬁrms that the setting was successful.
